School of Law event to dedicate
Nan Kirby Gressman Art Collection

The UNC School of Law will dedicate the Nan Kirby Gressman Art Collection at 3:30 p.m. Monday (Oct. 11) in the School of Law rotunda.

The event honors the life of Chapel Hill artist Nan Kirby Gressman, who died on May 10, and recognizes the gift of her art made by her husband and UNC law professor emeritus Eugene Gressman.

Speakers will include Gene R. Nichol, the school’s dean, and Eugene Gressman. A reception will follow in the School of Law rotunda. The public is invited to attend.

A professional artist for more than 50 years, Nan Kirby Gressman began her career as an abstract expressionist. She studied with the painters of the Washington Color School; color became a dominant element in her work.

Distinctive use of color and inclusion of expressionistic elements characterize her art and are well represented in the 20 paintings Eugene Gressman donated to the School of Law. Sixteen paintings are now installed permanently in the rotunda, and the remaining four are located on the school’s fifth floor.
