GWU manager to join UNC,
direct daily ITS operations

Robyn East will join UNC on Dec. 28 as deputy chief information officer and associate vice chancellor for Information Technology Services (ITS). East is currently executive director of the administrative applications department in Information Systems and Services at George Washington University.

"I sincerely love working with technology in higher education and am dedicated to maximizing the exciting potential that is available to us with today's technology," said East, who will manage ITS daily operations.

Dr. Daniel A. Reed, vice chancellor and chief information officer, said creation of a deputy CIO post is part of an ongoing reorganization of ITS aimed at creating a more nimble and flexible organization better able to serve the expansive UNC community.

"Robyn brings broad experience in academic IT management, and I am delighted that she will be joining us at UNC," Reed said in announcing her appointment to departmental staff this week.

Historically, UNC’s central IT organization consisted of three groups: "ATN" (Academic Technology and Networks), "AIS" (Administrative Information Services) and "S&P" (Systems and Procedures).

In October, all ITS members were organized by service skills into eight key groups, each headed by an assistant vice chancellor. The entire organization is now known as ITS.

East earned her bachelor’s degree from the Mississippi University for Women and completed graduate work at North Texas State University. She was awarded the 2003 EDUCAUSE Excellence in Administrative Systems Award.
