Farrow named executive director
of UNC’s Kenan Institute
Farrow begins work at the institute, a global research and outreach arm of UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School, today (Feb. 1). He succeeds Jean Elia, who was named associate dean for strategy and administration at UNC Kenan-Flagler in October.
"Raymond’s experiences in fund raising and programmatic development, coupled with his understanding of economic development and international activities and entrepreneurial orientation, fit perfectly with the Kenan Institute’s mission and vision," said Dr. John D. Kasarda, Kenan Institute director.
Since 1998, Farrow has led development efforts on behalf of UNC’s College of Arts and Sciences and University Center for International Studies to expand UNC’s international studies programs. He developed the campaign to fund international priorities at UNC and conceived programmatic and funding plans for the Global Education Center, a building that, when completed, will house three major components of international education: student services, academic programs and faculty research.
Before coming to UNC, Farrow was program director and managing director at World Trade Center North Carolina. He was one of 18 scholars nationwide chosen by the Henry Luce Foundation for a one-year professional internship in Asia. As a Luce Scholar, he worked with Chinese Public Television in Taipei, Taiwan.

training for Race for the Cure
One sign that spring is on the way is the approaching kick-off for this year’s Sole Sisters, an exercise program designed for women who do not regularly exercise.
The Sole Sisters V program will officially kick off at 6 p.m. March 1 with a two-hour orientation at UNC’s William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education.
Weekly training sessions will begin March 15 at the Friday Center.
Women ages 21 and older with no current, regular exercise program may register for the free program.
The Sole Sisters V group also will participate in the June 11 Komen NC Triangle Race for the Cure, as a part of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center team.
To register as a participant or guest runner, contact Jennifer Olsen at (919) 966-5905 or jbolsen@email.unc.edu.
