Sept. 19 panel discussion on Supreme Court
scheduled for Constitution Day observance
UNC’s School of Law will host a panel on Monday (Sept. 19) to discuss the confirmation of U.S. Supreme Court justices.
"Confirming Justice: The Supreme Court Confirmation Process" will be at 4:30 p.m. in the law school rotunda. Panelists are: Dr. Andy Bechtel, assistant professor at UNC’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication; Michael Gerhardt, Samuel Ashe distinguished professor of Constitutional Law, and Bill Marshall, William R. Kenan distinguished professor, both in the law school; and Dr. John Semonche, professor of American history in the College of Arts and Sciences.
The panel discussion is part of Constitution Day and Citizen Day, which falls on Saturday (Sept. 17) and is being celebrated in many places on Monday. A new national law requires all federally-funded elementary and secondary schools, colleges and universities to hold an educational program that day related to the U.S. Constitution and being a citizen of the United States.
UNC students, faculty and staff are invited to attend the panel discussion, which is open to the public. A reception will follow.
