The Chronicle of Higher Education

The 22 American universities that are seeking to raise at least $1-billion collected 
a total of $212.4-million in gifts and pledges during the last month for which they 
had data available. ... The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, $967.9-
million as of March 31 (increase of $14.1-million in the last month); the goal is $
1.8-billion by 2007.

Many approaches in treatments for autistic children

Treatment approaches have evolved as more is learned about autism. There are 
therapeutic programs, both conventional and alternative, that focus on replacing 
dysfunctional behaviors and developing specific skills. ... Many treatment

UNC study shows black women have lower suicide risk than whites

Black women in North Carolina are only one-third as likely to kill themselves as 
are white women. But officials aren’t collecting enough routine suicide data to learn
why such wide disparities exist and how to lower white women’s rates, according 
to Carol Runyan, a UNC researcher who published a study on the disparity 
Tuesday.

New 'Click It' commercial hopes to raise seat belt use

USA Patriot Act. The scenario: A man shows up at the front desk, says the library 
is cooperating with an investigation and demands records. ... "That's the most

Police chief says feds reneged on money for terror plans
