Sexually transmitted diseases have become so pervasive among the nation's
youth that one out of every two sexually active young people can expect
to become infected by age 25, a new report says....Young women are more
at risk than young men because the infections can "silently"
hide in the female reproductive tract, according to the study by the
School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

UNC official dies
The News & Observer
Nelson Ferebee Taylor, a former UNC-Chapel Hill chancellor described
as a gentlemanly scholar with a passion for precise detail, died Wednesday
at his home after a long battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
He was 83.

In fall 1964, Dan Pollitt, now 82 and a retired UNC-Chapel Hill law
professor, was among a group who ate dinner with Martin Luther King
Jr. and Coretta Scott King at the Top of the Mart restaurant in Atlanta.
Kirkpatrick,
64, professor

Robert Galloway Kirkpatrick Jr., a beloved professor of English
at UNC-Chapel Hill, died Tuesday from complications of surgery.
He was 64.

the road with NCCU's chancellor (Editorial)

Next month, N.C. Central University Chancellor James Ammons and a team
of NCCU administrators and students will embark on an ambitious, weeklong
bus tour
of 15 North Carolina cities to win the hearts and minds of prospective
students....It was inspired by the late UNC Chancellor Michael Hooker,
who launched a popular annual statewide bus tour in the mid-'90s to
help the school's faculty reconnect with the state's people.
