Rather than spend millions replacing aging microscopes, some medical schools
may switch to a DVD that is packed with images of healthy and diseased
tissue. First-year medical students at the University of North Carolina
(UNC) in Chapel Hill currently pop the DVD into their computer when
they need to look at specimens of cells, tissues and organs.

The board of trustees at the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill has unanimously approved a plan to explore the sale of some signs

Supporters of a ban on lobbyist-supported travel, gifts over $25 and other
perks to legislators were heartened to see some heavyweights in the General
Assembly introduce bills this session to do just that....Commission Chairman
Gene Nichol, UNC-Chapel Hill's law school dean, said he thinks
legislators will stay true to their word. But he plans to campaign for
the reforms just in case.

furnace on the other side at Charlotte's only steel mill....It is based
in Tampa and lists its shares on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Gerdau is
among a handful of major Brazilian companies venturing overseas, said
Geraldo Ferrer, a professor at the Kenan School of Business at UNC
Chapel Hill.

Hill Biotech gets $1.6 million grant

The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) announced it has awarded $1.6
million to Asklepios, a biotechnology company closely allied with the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, to develop gene therapy
strategies for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), a fatal, childhood-onset
disease.

Tax Incentives to Encourage Students to Attend College, Senators Are Told

The federal government should consolidate and simplify federal-tax incentives
for college students and make permanent the tax exemption of education-related
withdrawals from 529 college-savings plans, college and industry officials
told the Senate Finance Committee on Thursday.
