Panel Explores Decline Of Corporate Tax Base
The Wall Street Journal
Corporate taxes are declining because of sophisticated tax planning,
use of stock options, and the global economy outpacing an income tax
designed for the industrial age, a leading tax expert said Tuesday...."The
corporate tax base is under attack from many directions," Douglas
Shackelford, professor at University of North Carolina's Kenan-Flagler
Business School, said in prepared remarks before the Federal Advisory
Panel on Tax Reform.

of America board nominates 2 directors
The Charlotte Observer
Bank of America Corp. said Wednesday that its board has nominated two
new directors for election at the company's April 27 shareholder meeting....Looking
to join the board are Bob Tillman, retired chairman of Lowe's Companies
Inc., and Steve Jones, dean of the Kenan-Flagler school of Business
at UNC Chapel Hill.

Area university students are getting a crash course in entrepreneurship
from top business executives who have created successful companies of
their own....The area's three large universities - North Carolina State
University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and
Duke University - all have started entrepreneur-in-residence programs
to give students, and in some cases faculty, hands-on experience in
becoming a business or social entrepreneur.

Basketball
Madness Charges Into City
The Washington Post
Ed Taylor grew up in a small North Carolina town, nothing but tobacco
and cornfields, and like most people he knew, he went to N.C. State
University because he liked the basketball team. He still drives from
his home in Alexandria back to Raleigh for games every chance he gets.
Now a little bit of home is coming to him, and today he'll need only
to head downtown to try to land tickets.
