UNC's two-year search for a new chief information officer is finally over. The university has appointed Daniel Reed, a high-speed computing expert who joined the UNC faculty in January, to the positions of CIO and vice chancellor for information technology.

Experts: Good News On Job Horizon For Recent College Grads

State has cash to spare
The News & Observer

Legislators returned to Raleigh on Monday with surplus cash to spend for the first time in four years. But they quickly discovered the $300 million kitty won't come close to satisfying every desire in an election year....Dana Cope, the employees association's executive director, said worker raises should be legislators' top priority -- much higher, for instance, than the $300 million-plus sought for research centers at UNC-Chapel Hill, East Carolina University, UNC-Asheville and UNC-Charlotte.
