hires information tech chief
The Chapel Hill Herald
UNC's two-year search for a new chief information officer is finally
over. The university has appointed Daniel Reed, a high-speed
computing expert who joined the UNC faculty in January, to the positions
of CIO and vice chancellor for information technology.

Good News On Job Horizon For Recent College Grads

Thousands of graduates recently said goodbye to college life. There
is some good news for some Triangle-area graduates who are trying now
to enter the workforce...."The students graduating this year are
far better off than those who graduated a couple of years ago,"
said Marcia Harris, director of Career Services at the University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Memorial Hall was a disaster. It was either too hot or too cold
and always too uncomfortable. The stage was too small, the restrooms
too few and the acoustics, at best, too problematic.

has cash to spare
The News & Observer
Legislators returned to Raleigh on Monday with surplus cash to spend
for the first time in four years. But they quickly discovered the $300
million kitty won't come close to satisfying every desire in an election
year....Dana Cope, the employees association's executive director, said
worker raises should be legislators' top priority -- much higher, for
instance, than the $300 million-plus sought for research centers at
UNC-Chapel Hill, East Carolina University, UNC-Asheville and
UNC-Charlotte.
