Christopher A. Payne has been named director of Housing and Residential
Education. He started the job Aug. 1.
Dean L. Bresciani, the associate vice chancellor for student services, said
Payne brings to Carolina a long record of scholarly research and broad
administrative experience in both academic and business settings that will
enable him to refine and strengthen educational programs for students.
Payne had been serving as the director of housing operations at the University
of Denver. He has more than 11 years of post-masters degree experience in
student affairs and more than 17 years of experience in university
administration.
He earned his doctorate in college student personnel at the University of
Northern Colorado, a master's in education from the University of
Wisconsin-Platteville and a bachelor's in psychology from Colorado State
University.
Payne has said his housing philosophy seeks to balance the fundamental duty of
providing safe and well-maintained facilities with the challenge of fostering a
living-learning community furthering the educational mission.
