Susan Phillips joined the Gazette Aug. 16 as assistant editor. She has a
bachelor's in English from UNCG. Her most recent work has been designing
stained-glass windows, but her first job was in journalism -- she was a staff
writer at The News & Observer in Raleigh from 1972 to 1974. She also wrote
for a Virginia paper for two years.
