Environmental program opens field site in Thailand

In early June, Carolina's Environmental Program opened its Thailand Field Site in cooperation with Kenan Institute Asia. The site, with a central office in Bangkok, will host through December five environmental studies and environmental science majors from the University.

The students will take two or three environmental courses and participate in team-based research projects with Thai collaborators. One research theme will focus on the determinants of air-quality problems in Thailand. Other research will focus on sustainable mobility.

Richard Kamens, professor of environmental sciences and engineering, specializes in atmospheric pollution caused by complex chemicals. He will direct the site.
