SECC reaches new record

Logo designed for Employee Appreciation Fair

The 1999 Employee Appreciation Fair logo has been unveiled.

Designed by Georgia Parker of Printing Services, the logo features the theme of this year's fair: "A Decade of Celebration, Centuries of Service."

The theme came from several candidates submitted to the Employee Appreciation Fair Committee. The committee encouraged employees to build the theme around the idea of 10 years, because 1999 will mark the fair's 10th anniversary.

Rosa Swanson, secretary for clinical programs in the psychology department, submitted the winning theme.

"The staff has always been here, and the University couldn't run without us," Swanson said. "It all just sort of clicked."

Swanson often works with graduate students in her department, and she said she takes pride in helping scholars who perform research with the potential to help people in North Carolina and around the world.

"That makes me feel good, to even have a small role in that," she said.

Swanson sees the fair as a way to honor the hard work of herself and other employees.

"It's nice to be recognized collectively for what we do," she said. "It's always nice when somebody says you're doing a good job."

This year's fair will be May 21 at the Dean E. Smith Center. Swanson is likely to be there.

"I've only missed one, and I was out sick that day." she said. "I have a lot of fun at those things."

Talent search

Faculty and staff can show off artistic skills at the Employee Appreciation Fair, which again will feature an employee art display.

Items welcome include quilts, pottery, drawings, paintings, photographs, handicrafts and small sculptures.

Because of limited space, employees are encouraged to show only one piece. All drawings, paintings and photographs should be matted and framed for hanging.

A registration form appeared in the Jan. 27 Gazette. Employees also can get registration information by calling Lindsay Reeves at H.E.E.L.S. for Health, 2-2348.
