Kenan-Flagler to break ground for executive education center

Wednesday, Oct. 8, 1997

11:30 a.m., Dubose home lawn on the Meadowmont estate off N.C. 54

(Park and ride from Friday Center)

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Kenan-Flagler Business School will break ground Wednesday (Oct. 8) for the Paul J. Rizzo Conference Center at Meadowmont, a state-of-the-art residential executive education complex. The invitation-only event is not open to the public

The program will include remarks from Interim Kenan-Flagler Dean John P. Evans; UNC-CH Chancellor Michael Hooker; Dr. J. McNeely Dubose, a member of the family that donated the Meadowmont property to UNC-CH; and Thomas S. Kenan III and Daniel W. Drake, trustees of the William R. Kenan Jr. Charitable Trust, major donor for the building. Podium guests will include center namesake Paul J. Rizzo, retired vice chairman of IBM, former Kenan-Flagler dean and school alumnus; and R. Charles Loudermilk Sr., founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Atlanta, Ga.-based Aaron Rents Inc., Kenan-Flagler alumnus and a major project supporter.

The ground-breaking for Kenan-Flagler's new executive education conference center comes on the heels of the Sept. 12 dedication of the school's technologically advanced new home, the McColl Building, to which the school expects to move this fall. The Rizzo Center will feature the same cutting-edge classroom and telecommunications technology, which should significantly enhance the delivery of executive education programs.

Major support for the estimated $20 million building project has come from the Kenan Charitable Trust, which donated $10 million. Loudermilk donated $3 million. Both will be recognized at the ground-breaking ceremony.

Parking: Limited space is available for broadcasters with heavy equipment. Please call Cyndy Falgout at Kenan-Flagler, 919-962-0148, to reserve a spot. Other media are asked to park at the William and Ida Friday Continuing Education Center, on N.C. 54 across from the Meadowmont entrance, and ride shuttles.
