N.C. dental care task force to issue recommendations

The Task Force on Dental Care Access, created by the N.C. Institute of Medicine in January, will announce its findings at a 10 a.m. news conference Monday (May 10) at the Administration Building, 116 West Jones St. in Raleigh.
Chaired by Lt. Gov. Dennis Wicker, the task force was charged with finding ways to improve access to dental care for low-income North Carolinians, particularly children covered by Medicaid. The N.C. Institute of Medicine created the panel at the request of the secretary of the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services with grant support from the Duke Endowment and the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust.
Speakers will include task force chair Wicker; vice chair Sherwood Smith Jr., board chairman of Carolina Power & Light Co.; Dr. H. David Bruton, secretary of the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services; and Dr. James Harrell, president of the N.C. Dental Society.
