Public health, business schools to launch multi-state program for public health managers

Officials from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s School of Public Health and Kenan-Flagler Business School will unveil the details of a new and innovative education program for public-health managers during a briefing and public announcement set for 2 p.m. Monday (March 15) at the Kenan Center. Media representatives are invited to attend.

The Kenan Center is located off Skipper Bowles Drive, adjacent to the business school’s McColl Building and behind the Dean E. Smith Center.

UNC-CH was selected to receive a multi-million dollar grant for the multi-state initiative in a national competition with other research universities. The resulting program, the only one of its kind in the United States, will have a direct effect on public health-care services and is expected to be replicated nationwide.

William L. Roper, dean of the School of Public Health, and Robert S. Sullivan, dean of the Kenan-Flagler Business School, will speak, along with UNC President Molly Broad and UNC-CH Provost Richard Richardson. Other participants will include Jeffrey P. Koplan, director of the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; Claude Earl Fox, director of the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration; C. Charles Stokes, executive director of the CDC Foundation; Nancy Kaufman, vice president of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation; and Barbara J. Sabol, program director of the W. K. Kellogg Foundation.

Parking: Media representatives may park in the Kenan Center lot but need to reserve a space in advance. To do so, call Mike McFarland or Karen Moon (broadcast) at News Services, 962-2091.
