Washington, D.C.

Dr. William L. Roper, dean of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s School of Public Health, will testify before the U.S. Senate Finance Committee at 10 a.m. Wednesday (April 28) regarding Medicare’s response to changes in medicine and markets.

Wednesday morning’s hearing will be held in Room 215 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building. It is one of five hearings scheduled by the finance committee this spring to examine the transformation of American health care and the evolution of Medicare.

Roper is one of four health-policy experts from across the nation invited to testify Wednesday.

Roper is a former head of the Health Care Financing Administration, which has responsibility for Medicare and Medicaid, and also of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A pediatrician by training, Roper has federal, state and local government experience addressing health issues and has also held health-policy leadership posts in the private sector, most recently as senior vice president of Prudential HealthCare before joining the UNC-CH School of Public Health as dean in June 1997.
