University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill researchers will share findings from a five-year, statewide study of fires and injuries caused by fireworks at a 9 a.m. news briefing Friday (June 30) on the second floor of Chase Hall. The study was undertaken in part to assess the economic and medical impact of legalizing certain fireworks in December 1993.

Reporters are invited to learn to about the research, which involved the UNC-CH Injury Prevention Research Center, the N.C. Jaycee Burn Center at UNC Hospitals and the UNC-CH schools of medicine and public health. A small demonstration of the power of "harmless" fireworks will take place.
