Triangle universities create mock library disaster
Wednesday, July 26, 1:30 p.m.
The William and Ida Friday Continuing Education Center
Staff members for the libraries at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, N.C. State, N.C. Central, and Duke universities will participate in a mock disaster tomorrow (July 26) at the William and Ida Friday Continuing Education Center in Chapel Hill.
Beginning at 1:30 p.m., library workers will begin salvaging and recovering over 5,000 donated books, maps and audiovisual materials that have been doused with water to simulate what might happen in the wake of a storm, an extinguished fire, or burst plumbing. Experienced trainers will lead more than 100 staff members from the four Triangle universities in the drill.
The event is the culmination of months of cooperative planning among those libraries to prepare staff throughout the area to assist each other when disasters occur.
