Chancellor Moeser to announce final decision
3 p.m., Tuesday, April 30
Hill Central Ballroom, Carolina Inn
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Chancellor
James Moeser will hold a news conference today (April 30) at 3 p.m. to announce
a final decision about the future of the university’s Horace Williams Airport.
The airport’s future status has been a question mark in
part because of long-standing community concerns about safety and its proximity
to several neighborhoods. The airport is a key component of a 900-acre parcel of
university-owned property that is the focus of potential future mixed-use
development through a project called Carolina North.
The session is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. and will be
held in the Hill Central Ballroom at the Carolina Inn. Broadcasters can expect audio feeds. Parking will be
available in the lots at the Carolina Inn, located off Pittsboro Street. Tell
the inn parking attendants you are attending the news conference.
UNC has operated the airport since the 1940s. It has
continued operating over the years primarily to support the North Carolina Area
Health Education Centers Program, based at the UNC School of Medicine. The
program transports faculty across North Carolina to provide specialty clinics
and educational programs designed to improve the quality of health care for
state citizens.
