UNC officials move Carolina First fund-raising announcement indoors due to rain
Friday (Oct. 11), 12:30 p.m.
Hill Ballroom, Carolina Inn, Pittsboro Street, UNC campus
Today (Oct.11) the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will announce the final goal for its Carolina First fund-raising campaign, a multi-year drive to raise more than $1.5 billion and establish UNC as the nation’s leading public university.
The announcement will come during a formal ceremony moved indoors due to rain. It will be held in the Hill Ballroom of the Carolina Inn, located off Pittsboro Street on the edge of the UNC campus. The announcement comes on the eve of University Day, which marks the university’s 209th birthday and commemorates the 1793 laying of the cornerstone of Old East, the nation’s first state university building.
Speakers will include Chancellor James Moeser, Tim Burnett, chair of the UNC Board of Trustees of Greensboro, and campaign co-chairs Paul Fulton, a UNC trustee from Winston-Salem, and Charles M. Shaffer Jr. of Atlanta.
Moeser will announce the campaign goal, the amount raised to date and the purposes for which funds will be raised. Other highlights will include the symbolic appearance of Gen. William Richardson Davie, considered the father of the university.
