UNC to announce new initiative to benefit future students from low-income families

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Chancellor James Moeser will brief North Carolina media representatives Wednesday (Oct. 1) on a major new financial aid initiative that will benefit children of low-income families who attend the university in the future.

Moeser will officially announce the new initiative as part of his annual "State of the University" address to the campus community at 3 p.m. tomorrow in Hill Hall Auditorium, near the media briefing site.

Joining him for the 1 p.m. briefing will be Shirley Ort, associate provost and director of UNCís Office of Scholarships and Student Aid, and Jerry Lucido, vice provost for enrollment management and director of undergraduate admissions. The briefing will be held adjacent to the universityís Visitorsí Center, located at the west end of the Morehead Building, home of the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center.

Parking: Media representatives can park in the gated Morehead Center parking lot in spaces reserved for the briefing and are asked to tell the gate attendant that they are attending the chancellorís news briefing. Audio feed: Broadcasters can expect a mult box for audio feeds.

Satellite TV feed: News Services will provide a satellite feed for television stations Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. The feed will include remarks by Moeser about the new initiative as well as b-roll of the campus and students. Satellite coordinates: Galaxy 4R, Transponder 20.
