Media representatives are invited to cover the dedication ceremony for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hillís new $20 million School of Nursing building addition, which has, among other features, a landscaped rooftop to manage storm water sustainability.
This is the first building in the 16-campus University of North Carolina system to have pending Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Certification is voluntary and based on design and construction practices promoting buildings that are environmentally responsible and healthy places to work.
The new 69,350-square-foot facility doubles the schoolís existing space and is home to a 163-seat auditorium, 83 new faculty and staff offices, 23 new funded project spaces and 15 new conference room-meeting areas.
The building addition will feature technology-enhanced classrooms; continuing education offices and classrooms; undergraduate computer labs-classrooms; faculty, staff and student lounges; and multiple research offices and suites.
The new addition also will house the schoolís Center for Research on Chronic Illness office and project areas, Clinical Education and Resource Center labs and a human patient simulator laboratory.
Speakers at the ceremony will include: UNC Chancellor James Moeser; Richard "Stick" Williams, chairman of the Board of Trustees; Dr. Linda R. Cronenwett, School of Nursing dean; Dr. Mary C. Tonges, UNC Hospitals senior vice president and chief nursing officer; Margaret Raynor, School of Nursing Foundation president; and BJ Lee, School of Nursing Alumni Association president.
Visuals and interview opportunities: Tours of the building will be offered at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. and leave from the lower level east lobby. More information, including a complete schedule of events, can be found at http://nursing.unc.edu/development/dedication_day/index.html.
