Media representatives are invited to cover this annual outreach effort aimed at improving awareness and encouraging pedestrian safety on campus at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Led by the UNC Highway Safety Research Center, volunteers and public safety officers will proactively encourage students, faculty, staff and visitors to be aware, be considerate and be safe as they negotiate crosswalks, intersections and other areas where vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians converge.

Volunteers and public safety officers will be stationed with message signs at the following crosswalk locations:

These staff and volunteer monitors will distribute free T-shirts and information fliers with pedestrian safety tips and coupons from local vendors.

The "Yield to Heels" campaign focuses on three messages for drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists: Be aware, be considerate and be safe.
