Habitat for Humanity International CEO to speak
at dedication of UNC Kenan-Flagler Habitat home

Friday (April 7), 4 p.m.
605 Nunn St.
Chapel Hill

Media representatives are invited to cover the dedication of the Shah family home, a house built through Habitat for Humanity and with the volunteer efforts of nearly 300 students, faculty, staff and alumni from UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School.

The Shah family – parents Aaron and Trina and their children Cierra (14), Scottie (13), Shanequa (12), Kareem (7) and twins Aaron and Ahmed (1) – will receive the keys to their new home in a short dedication ceremony.

Habitat for Humanity International chief executive officer Jonathan T.M. Reckford will speak at the dedication. Steve Jones, dean of UNC Kenan-Flagler, and Susan Levy, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Orange County, also will participate in the ceremony.

A North Carolina native, Reckford earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from UNC. He was unanimously elected CEO of Habitat for Humanity International in August 2005. More information on Reckford is at

Habitat for Humanity of Orange County has built more than 140 homes in the past 20 years for Orange County families in need. Volunteer labor is used to build houses to keep building costs low for Habitat families. As Habitat homeowners pay their mortgages, the money goes into a revolving fund that helps build houses with other families. More information on Habitat for Humanity of Orange County is at

Directions to the Shah family’s house from downtown Chapel Hill at Columbia and Franklin streets: Drive north on Columbia. Take a left at the next light onto Rosemary Street. Drive west on Rosemary. Take a right onto Sunset Drive and turn right onto Nunn Street. The house will be on the right, and volunteers will help with parking.
