The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will present to media representatives the plan for the Carolina North campus that was approved by the UNC Board of Trustees Sept. 26. A community meeting about Carolina North will follow later that afternoon.

Jack Evans, executive director of Carolina North, will lead the media preview. The community meeting will be held at 4 p.m., also in Room 2603. As at the other monthly meetings held since March, attendees will have opportunities to ask questions and share comments. The feedback will continue to support the university’s efforts as it prepares to present the trustee-approved plan for Carolina North to the Chapel Hill Town Council.

Carolina North is envisioned as a mixed-use academic community on the 900-plus-acre tract of university land 2 miles north of the main campus. Evans has emphasized that the primary driver for Carolina North is the university’s mission – education, research, public service – and a responsibility to help meet the state’s economic development needs.

An ecological assessment is helping guide UNC’s efforts toward sustainability principles and goals at Carolina North. Other input includes a report from the Leadership Advisory Committee that made recommendations for guiding principles for development.
