Chancellor Moeser comments on graduate rankings in U.S. News & World Report
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Chancellor James Moeser has issued the following statement about graduate and specialty programs appearing in new rankings compiled by U.S. News & World Report magazine:
"Many of Carolina’s graduate and professional degree programs in the health sciences, social sciences, liberal arts and the humanities have emerged as national leaders over the past half-century and are a tremendous asset for North Carolina.
The quality and excellence of the faculty and talented graduate students in those programs benefits the people of North Carolina. They are working hard to provide new knowledge and educational services to the state through skilled teaching, innovative research and dynamic public service. What they do so well helps the entire university transform people’s lives.
Many of these graduate programs receive national recognition on a regular basis. Journalistic rankings are not a focus for Carolina. However, these new lists of several professional school degree programs and specialty areas from U.S. News & World Report are based in part on the opinions of fellow deans, senior faculty, program directors and practicing professionals.
We are pleased these programs, along with many others not emphasized in this year’s particular list of categories, remain a source of pride for the Carolina community."
