UNC, Duke, to promote awareness,
prevention, of sexual assault

CHAPEL HILL — Tar Heels and Blue Devils may not see eye-to-eye when it comes to athletics, but members of both camps are joining forces to promote awareness and prevention of sexual assault and violence.

Representatives of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University will offer expert advice, promotional materials and information about the topic Saturday (Feb. 25), beginning about an hour before their women’s basketball teams square off at 2 p.m. (The game is sold out.)

Members of the universities’ public safety and police departments, dean of students offices and student health services will staff an information table near the entrance to UNC’s Carmichael Auditorium. Promotional items including T-shirts and bracelets will be free.

The Robertson Collaboration Fund awarded a $2,500 grant last June for the multi-agency cooperative sexual assault and violence prevention awareness venture. The fund awards $50,000 in grants annually for cooperative education and enrichment efforts by UNC and Duke. It is associated with the Robertson Scholars Program, which funds merit scholarships for students to attend both universities.
