Carolina North Leadership Advisory Committee to meet July 6

CHAPEL HILL - The Leadership Advisory Committee for Carolina North will meet Thursday (July 6) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The meeting will be held at 4 p.m. in Room 204 of the Kenan Center. Meeting-related parking will be available in the Kenan-Flagler Business School parking deck beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Ken Broun, Henry Brandis professor of law at UNC and former Chapel Hill mayor, is facilitating the advisory committee, which includes representatives from the towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce, Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, Orange County, EmPOWERment, the State Department of Transportation, the governor's office, the Orange Water and Sewer Authority, and the university.

The committee's purpose is to get community input on Carolina North from as broad a range of interests as possible. The committee was asked to develop principles that will guide the university in preparing plans for submission to the local governing bodies as part of the regulatory process.

Chancellor James Moeser asked Broun to lead the committee in guiding planning for Carolina North, the subject of a draft conceptual plan developed previously for the 900-plus-acre tract of UNC-owned property. The committee will study Carolina North issues over the next several months with a final report going to the chancellor.

The committee's meetings are public. Individuals who attend the July 6 meeting who are not committee members may address the panel on relevant issues for no more than two minutes each. Those interested in speaking are asked to sign up at the registration desk before the meeting starts. The number of speakers will be limited to five.

The next meeting is scheduled to be broadcast at a later time on outlets including Channel 4, the university access channel, on Time Warner Cable in Chapel Hill. As with past meetings, the video will also be posted on the Carolina North Website, http://research.unc.edu/cn/latest.php
