Public invited to catch Marketplace's live
broadcast from Durham, WUNC on Tuesday

CHAPEL HILL - Fans of American Public Media's Marketplace will be able to be part of a "first" on Tuesday (June 13) when host Kai Ryssdal anchors the national business news program's daily radio broadcast live from North Carolina Public Radio-WUNC's studios at the American Tobacco Historic District in Durham.

The public is invited to watch and hear the live production in Bay Seven, adjacent to the station's Durham studios, beginning at 5 p.m. Attendance is free, but reservations are requested at rsvp@wunc.org.

Marketplace programs, which include a half-hour weekday afternoon program, Marketplace, and Marketplace Money, an hour-long weekend program focusing on personal finance, are heard by approximately eight million listeners each week - more than any other business program on radio or television. Last year, North Carolina Public Radio-WUNC partnered with Marketplace to establish its national Innovations Desk based at WUNC.

Ryssdal has hosted Marketplace since August 2005 after hosting The Marketplace Morning Report for more than four years. His radio work has won first-place awards from the Radio and Television News Directors Association and the national Public Radio News Directors Association. He is a veteran of the U.S. Navy and, before his career in public radio, served in Canada and China as a member of the U.S. Foreign Service.

North Carolina Public Radio-WUNC is the public radio service licensed to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It is heard at 91.5 FM in the Triangle and Triad regions, at 90.9 FM in Rocky Mount/Wilson, and at 88.9 FM on the Outer Banks. WUNC serves more than 250,000 listeners each week. For more details on this event and other programming, visit www.wunc.org.
