Britain’s leading period-instrument orchestra
to perform all-Mozart concert in Memorial Hall
CHAPEL HILL — The Academy of Ancient Music will perform at 8 p.m. Monday (April 3) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The concert in Memorial Hall’s Beasley-Curtis Auditorium will be part of the 2005-2006 Carolina Performing Arts Series.
With more than 250 recordings and performances on six continents under its belt, the Academy of Ancient Music boasts a prolific record of excellence and is recognized as Britain’s leading period-instrument orchestra.
Besides being one of the foremost ensembles in the world, it sets itself apart as one of the few dedicated to authentically recreating baroque, classical and early Romantic-era music with period instruments.
The ensemble’s all-Mozart concert, which coincides with the 250th year since the composer’s birth, will include works that focus on his violin expertise. The program will feature the Divertimento in F major K125c/K138; Violin Concerto No. 5 in A major K219; Violin Concerto No. 1 in Bb major K207; and Symphony No. 29 in A major K186a/K201.
Single tickets – $28 to $50 for the public and $10 for Carolina students – are available by calling (919) 843-3333, or from the Memorial Hall box office on Cameron Avenue, open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Carolina students should call the box office for purchasing information.
On performance days, the box office is open from 10 a.m. until intermission weekdays and noon until intermission on weekends. For more information, e-mail performingarts@unc.edu or visit www.unc.edu/performingarts.
