Assault, robbery reported at UNC;
campus police offer safety tips

CHAPEL HILL – A 25-year old male University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill student has reported that he was assaulted and robbed on Pittsboro Street at the western edge of campus early Tuesday morning (Nov. 1).

The victim filed his report with UNC police on Wednesday and said the incident occurred about 1 a.m. Tuesday.

The victim said that he was approached by four males shortly after completing a withdrawal at the State Employees Credit Union automated teller machine. The four suspects assaulted the victim, took his wallet and left in an unknown direction, according to UNC police. The suspects are black males, all of whom were between 5 feet, 10 inches tall and 6 feet tall. One suspect was stocky, while the other three had average builds.

No further descriptions of the suspects or any vehicles were provided, police said. The victim did not require medical treatment.

UNC police asked anyone with information concerning this case to call the department at (919) 962-8100 or Chapel Hill-Carrboro-UNC CrimeStoppers at (919) 942-7515. Callers to CrimeStoppers are neither asked to reveal their identity nor appear in court.
