UNC music students, faculty
invite public to concerts

CHAPEL HILL – Classical and jazz music will be among highlights of concerts this month by music students and faculty at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The performances, free and open to the public in Hill Hall Auditorium, will be:

The Wind Ensemble and Symphony Band, 8 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 12), music of American composers: "New England Triptych" by the late William Schuman (1910-1992), performed by the band, and "Hymn for the Lost and Living," Eric Ewazen’s (1954 - ) memorial for Sept. 11, by the ensemble.·
The UNC Symphony Orchestra, 8 p.m. Oct. 19, selections including "Lieutenant Kijé Suite" by Russian composer and pianist Sergey Prokofiev (1891-1953) and "Enigma Variations" by English composer and conductor Sir Edward Elgar (1857-1934).·
The UNC Jazz Band, 8 p.m. Oct. 28, traditional pieces including Duke Ellington’s "Cotton Tail" and contemporary pieces such as Kim Richmond’s "Passages."·
Music professor Brent Wissick’s, "Cello and Friends" recital, 8 p.m. Oct. 29.
