Garner foundation establishes
two scholarships at UNC
CHAPEL HILL - The Yeargan Foundation Charitable Trust of Garner, N.C., has
endowed two scholarships at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
to benefit graduates of Garner High School.
A need-based Yeargan Scholarship will be awarded annually to an incoming freshman
with financial need. Preference will be given to Garner High School students,
followed by other high school graduates from the Garner area.
A merit-based Yeargan Scholarship will be awarded every four years to an incoming
freshman based on academic achievement. The merit-based Yeargan Scholarship
will provide financial assistance to the recipient for a four-year period. Preferences
will be the same as those for the Yeargan need-based scholarships.
Both scholarships are expected to be awarded for the first time for the 2007-2008
academic year.
The Yeargan Foundation Charitable Trust was created by L.C. Yeargan, Rowann
Yeargan, Flora A. Yeargan and Wilma Yeargan Bass. Through their leadership and
financial support, the foundation supports various medical and education programs
in Wake County and throughout the Triangle area.
Generations of Yeargan family members have attended Carolina. L.C. Yeargan,
Sherman A. Yeargan, Sherman A. Yeargan, Jr. and Sherman A. Yeargan III all graduated
from Carolina. Rowann Yeargan and Sherman A. Yeargan, Jr. serve as trustees
of the Yeargan Foundation Charitable Trust.
