Super Sources for Political Reporters
With state and national elections around the corner, reporters often need
quick access to informed historians and political scientists. Two of the best,
most reporter-friendly such sources are at the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill.
- Dr. William Leuchtenburg, William Rand Kenan professor of history,
can be reached at (919) 967-1257. He is a past president of the American Historical
Association, the nation’s top expert on Franklin D. Roosevelt and one of the
top experts on the U.S. presidency. He has researched and written about countless
other subjects ranging from the U.S. Supreme Court and Lyndon Johnson to Huey
Long and Johnny Appleseed and has appeared on national news programs as an
expert many times.
- Dr. Thad L. Beyle, Pearsall professor of political science, can be
reached at (919) 962-0404 (w) or 942-1281 (h). Beyle is widely acknowledged
as "Mr. North Carolina Politics." He and his students have been
keeping up with, analyzing and commenting on politics across the state and
the South for decades, and he’s also an expert on the national presidential
picture at any given time.
