OASIS ACTS!

OASIS ACTS! is the community service and advocacy subgroup of OASIS. We strive to raise awareness about the issues affecting Africa and bring about change through involvement in the community, fund raising and civic engagement. We collaborate with non-profit organizations and other campus groups throughout the year in an effort to reconstruct affected communities and alleviate the poverty that affects such communities. This year we have made it a priority to fight against deadly diseases such as HIV/AIDS and Malaria. Therefore, we have partnered with Malaria No More in a campaign to eradicate malaria related deaths, by distributing treated nets to needy families. We are also working with Carolina For Kibera to fight abject poverty and help prevent violence through community-based development in the Kibera slum of Nairobi, Kenya. Overall, OASIS ACTS is simply a group in which members can give back to their community and make a difference in the lives of others.
Kabari Drama Troupe
Kabari is both a creative outlet and resourceful branch of the organization. The employment of storytelling, dramatic productions, poetry and film screening are a mean of depicting an accurate portrayal of African issues and daily life, and also breaking away from stereotypes.
