"The Cutting Edge of Scientific Racism" click here for abstract

Oct. 22, 3:30 pm, Alumni Bldg., Room 205

Although anthropology constructed itself largely in opposition to scientific racism, the present generation is seeing a retrenching of the old ideas, often self-consciously presented in opposition to contemporary anthropology. My talk will focus on modern scientific racism as a site of anthropological interest, not simply as an intellectual antagonist, but also as a key example in the anthropology of science – involving the production of knowledge, the intersection of power and money with science, and the boundary between “science” and “pseudoscience”.
