AAAS/AGEP Evaluation Capacity Building Workshop
Dear AGEP Colleagues:
On behalf of Roosevelt Johnson, Program Director for the National
Science Foundation (NSF) Alliance for Graduate Education and The
Professoriate Program (AGEP), I am writing to invite you to the second
AAAS/AGEP Evaluation Capacity Building Workshop. Once again, the
workshop will be hosted in Puerto Rico on January 26, 27 & 28, 2006. We
are asking each AGEP Alliance to bring a team that includes
Provosts/Graduate Deans, staff members from institutional/central
research, and the AGEP Directors/Coordinators. We are at a very critical
stage of AGEP development, and full participation in this meeting is
being requested by NSF.
As you already know AGEP makes resources available to significantly
increase the number of underrepresented minority students receiving
doctoral degrees and entering the professoriate. AGEP promotes the
establishment of alliances of doctoral and non-doctoral institutions
working collaboratively to build sustainable infrastructure that leads
to a healthier STEM graduate education enterprise. Towards this end the
topics for this workshop will include three strands:
- Building a Graduate School Data Collection Infrastructure.
- Evaluation of Recruitment/Admissions Efforts in terms of Resources
and Results.
- Progression towards the Ph.D.
Each topic strand will include (a) 15-20 minute plenary, (b) a
30-minute panel featuring strategies developed by selected AGEPs, (c)
60- minute small group session, and (d) a 30-45 minute large group
session. The small group breakout sessions will include a:
- Policy Issues (Provosts/Graduate Deans).
- Technical Implementation Issues (Institutional/Central Researchers)
- AGEP Program-wide Challenges (AGEP Directors/Coordinators)
In addition, we will host an AGEP Evaluation poster session and provide an update on the overall AGEP Program Data Collection. This poster session is designed to give Alliances the opportunity to present their program evaluation results.
If you have questions about the workshop please email Yolanda George, ygeorge@aaas.org or call at 202-326-6677 or email Roosevelt Johnson, ryjohnso@nsf.gov
We hope your Alliance will be able to participate in this workshop,
Sincerely,
Yolanda S. George
