Successful Tenth Annual Alliance Day Conference

The Tenth Annual Alliance Day conference once again received raving reviews. The collective efforts of the Alliance partners and the involvement of programs across the State encourage students from middle school to graduate school to attend the conference. There were separate agendas for each educational level. The conference attendees exceeded 700 while over 500 were students. The keynote speaker was Dr. Henry T. Frierson, Dean of the Graduate School and Associate Vice President and Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Florida. Dr. Frierson, who previously spent 33 years at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, was one of the four distinguished academe leaders who developed and nurtured the Alliance into what it is today. The other three academe leaders are Dr. Caesar R. Jackson, North Carolina Central University; Dr. Kenneth H. Murray, (Retired), last position as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and previously Dean of the Graduate School at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and Dr. David M. Shafer, Assistant Dean for Outreach and Diversity at the Graduate School, North Carolina State University. All four were present at this honorable occasion. The Tenth Annual Alliance Day conference was recognized by the State of North Carolina in the receipt of a Proclamation signed by the Governor of North Carolina, Beverly Perdue.
