Eleventh Annual NC OPT-ED Alliance Day Conference

WOW. What a Year!

The theme for the Eleventh Annual Alliance Day conference was "Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and Social, Behavioral and Economics Sciences: Empowering the Next Generation of Leaders." This in fact did materialize at our Eleventh Annual Conference. We had great speakers from the following institutions:

  • University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
  • North Carolina State University
  • North Carolina Central University
  • Saint Augustine University
  • Duke University
  • Elizabeth City State University
  • North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University
  • Winston Salem State University
  • Johnson C. Smith University

In addition to these outstanding speakers, there were such organizations as:

  • The Institute of Broadening Participation
  • Glaxo Smith Kline
  • CISCO

providing informational sessions to our middle school, high school and undergraduate students. Overall, the collaboration of our partner institutions and the support of our STEM focus organizations made this conference the most rewarding and educational for our students, parents and faculty. We also received a 2012 State of North Carolina Proclamation "Creating Opportunity Through Education Day" that was signed by the Governor of North Carolina, Beverly Perdue. Let us continue to work to sharpen the intellectual skills of our youth in the promotion of STEM education and look forward to the continuation of such a conference as the North Carolina Alliance Day conference.
