NC OPT-ED Programs
Overview
NC OPT-ED will extend and build upon the work of existing National Science Foundation (NSF)-supported Minority Graduate Education projects and other diversity programs implemented at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina State University, and North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. It will integrate the resources of the existing programs and encourage collaboration coupled with development of strategies, in order to identify and support underrepresented minority (URM) students who wish to pursue academic careers. The strength and uniqueness of the NC OPT-ED Program is that it incorporates NSF URM initiative programs in North Carolina to form a broader alliance, thus creating effective networks and student pathways to the professoriate.
The core alliance programs are listed below:
- AGEP
Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate Program - HBCU-UP
Historically Black Colleges and Universities Undergraduate Program - NC-LSAMP
North Carolina Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation - NC-MSEN
North Carolina Math Science Education Network - Pre-College Programs (Grades 6-12) - CREST
Center for Research Excellence in Science and Technology
