"We the sisters of Phi Beta Chi"

Phi Beta Chi is a Social Sorority with Christian Ideals.  Our National Sorority was founded on March 26, 1978 at the University of Illinois at Champaign.  As the 10th Chapter, Kappa was founded at UNC on August 23, 1997.  Phi Beta Chi's ideals are based on Lutheran principles, but we accept and encourage women of any spiritual background to join us and experience lifelong friendships and sisterhood while praising God.  Our motto "Amor Via Vitae in Christo" means Love Through Life in Christ and is the basis for all of our beliefs.

Phi Beta Chi was founded at Carolina as a strong social sisterhood for women who share a common bond-the desire to uphold Christian Ideals.  Like all sororities, we encourage close friendships, serious scholarship, social activities, campus events, leadership training, and community service.  Through these activities we strive to prepare members for a lifetime of excellence in all endeavors.  Our hope is that what we have started will continue and that the members will uplift one another.

Kappa Chapter meets weekly on Wednesdays at 6:45pm.  These chapter meetings last approximately an hour and a half.  Dress code is formal on the last Wednesday of every month, whereas all other chapter meetings are informal.  The Associate Members are required to meet one night a week for 6 weeks in order to learn about the sorority.  We also host an I-week, Inspiration Week, which is centered on our Associate Members.  Chapter, the Associate Member meetings and I-Week are mandatory, whereas our other events during the week are not mandatory.

There are countless opportunities every day of the week to spend with your sisters. Some of the ways in which we fellowship include mixers, formals, retreats, grab-a-dates, service projects (i.e.Ronald McDonald House), intramural sports, and girly nights.  We have lunches every weekday at either Granville or Lenior so that you don't have to eat alone.  Other weekly events include going to get ice-cream or coffee (depending on the weather), Bible studies, prayer partners, study tables at the library, SRC visits, etc.  There is always something going on in which you can be involved.  We hope you will consider joining all of the fun that Phi Beta Chi has to share!  If you have any questions, feel free to contact our President Emily Pressley.
