The REU program in Molecular Biology and Genetics offers an unique opportunity for talented undergraduates interested in acquiring research experience and addressing biological issues. Research opportunities in specialized interests such as: polymerase chain reaction units, oligonucleotide synthesis, and automated DNA sequencing are available. Interns spend the summer engaged in a rigorous program of research in the field or in the lab. They will also have the opportunity to attend introductory lectures by Center faculty and participate in research ethic sessions. The REU program provides the opportunity to learn techniques for exploring behavior, including DNA fingerprinting, neuron tracing and modeling, telemetry, mark and recapture studies, video manipulation, etc. Interns also have access to audio analysis systems and general computing facilities.
Students generally work on projects that are closely related to faculty research interests. If the projects currently available do not suit your interests, you may submit a one-two page proposal describing research that you would like to conduct during the summer. If you would like to submit such a proposal, please contact the Center before sending your application so that we can be sure that we have the facilities required.
REU Summer Internships are designed to encourage and enhance the participation of members currently underrepresented in the sciences including women, minority students, disabled students, and students from small colleges, but all applications will be considered. Participants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States and must be enrolled as an undergraduate student during the REU program.
