A stipend of $3000; room and board; transportation (up to $500); and $300 for research supplies.*Note: Participants may, by arrangement with a mentor and the UMBS Administration Office prior to the start of the program, elect to obtain up to three semester hours credit for an independent study project by enrolling in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology 400, "Advanced Research in Biology". Tuition expenses will be the responsibility of the individual student.
Synopsis
Students selected for the program will gain a "hands-on" experience with all phases of research by working on an on-going research project, developing and conducting their own research project, and participating in a series of workshops and group discussions. The eight week program, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), will be held at the University of Michigan Biological Station located in northern Michigan at Douglas Lake. Participation in the REU program is intense. Participants should expect to work on some phase of the program at least eight hours a day, six days a week, including a number of evening sessions. The intense working schedule is balanced by a relaxed atmosphere; living in rustic cabins surrounded by 10,000 acres of beautiful nature and Douglas Lake nearby.Address
