A summer research opportunity is available to undergraduate students who have an interest in pursuing graduate training in nutrition, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related biological sciences. Participants conduct full-time research under the mentorship of faculty members in the College of Health and Human Development, the College of Agricultural Sciences, and the Eberly College of Science at Penn State. Students work alongside experienced scientists adn graduate students as part of a research team. The primary activity for students will be to explore a research question with guidance from a faculty mentor and his/her staff. However students will also have an opportunity to attend seminars, get to know other laboratories, learn about science career opportunities, and socialize with the Penn State community.In addition to research, students will participate in seminars concerning science communication and research opportunities, as well as writing research papers and presenting oral reports. Guidelines
Applicants must be:To apply, students must submit a completed application postmarked no later than March 1, 2003. Submit a current transcript, two letters of recommendation, and an application form which includes an essay describing the reason for wanting to participate, general research interests, and career goals. Call or email to receive an application form.
- Students from any college who are African American, Hispanic, Native American, or Southeast Asian; or any student from a college without broad research activities
- Entering junior or senior year with a grade point average of at least 3.0
- U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents.
