Registering a Non-UNC Domain Name
|
In order to register a non-unc.edu domain name (.com or .org or .net) on a system using the UNC-Chapel Hill network, you must be a UNC faculty or staff member. You may only use the domain name for non-commercial UNC business. Personal use is not acceptable. Use of non-unc.edu domain names on the UNC network for commercial or personal business will result in loss of network access. (See the Acceptable Use policy.) Send the proposed domain name and a brief description of the intended use to hostreg@unc.edu in order to make sure the purpose is in line with UNC's mission. Purchase the domain name from Network Solutions at http://www.networksolutions.com/
or a similar provider. Use the contact, record, and server information listed
below when purchasing the domain name. List yourself as the billing
contact. Provide hostreg@unc.edu with your
finalized domain name so that it can be added to the UNC name servers. |
