The American Politics Research Group (APRG) holds meetings from noon until 1:00 pm every Friday during the academic year.  APRG is primarily a forum for our graduate students and faculty members to share their research projects and gain critical feedback on their work.  In addition, APRG also invites in prominent researchers from other universities and colleges to present any research they may have "in-progress".  We ask all participants to prepare talks that last approximately 40 minutes and then to expect about 20 minutes of question and answer time.  We try to end promptly at 1:00 pm.  All presenters are encouraged to provide a copy of a working paper that accompanies their presentation, but this is by no means necessary.

APRG Summer Research Fellowships for Graduate Students

Each summer the American Politics Research Group awards a limited number of fellowships to support UNC-Chapel Hill political science graduate students actively engaged in research on American politics or policy.  This financial support is intended to encourage graduate students to remain active in the department and in their own research agendas during the calendar break in departmental teaching assistant funding.  Recipients of the award are expected to present the product of their efforts to the group at a regular Friday meeting during the academic year following the award.

Proposals for consideration for funding for each summer will be due during the Spring semester.  You may e-mail your proposal as an attachment to the APRG Coordinator at aprg@unc.edu. Your proposal should include the following items:

1. Your name and year in the program
2. A brief history of your previous summer funding by APRG.  If you have received funding in the past, please list the summers and describe the tangible results of your research from those summers.  Specifically, did your research result in conference papers or publications?
3. A brief (1 to 2 pages) description of the research you are planning to do this summer if you receive assistance from APRG.    During the Spring semester, a committee will meet to determine how many fellowships will be offered this year, the size of those awards, and who will receive the funding.

Contact aprg@unc.edu with questions.
