Jurg Steiner, Professor of Political Science, is a Swiss citizen. He is also teaching at the University of Bern and at the European University Institute in Florence. His interest is in comparative politics with particular focus on theories of deliberative politics. Besides several books and many articles in German and French, Professor Steiner has published in English in The American Political Science Review, The Journal of Politics, Comparative Politics, Publius, European Journal of Political Research, The Journal of Conflict Resolution, the British Journal of Political Science, Comparative Political Studies, and Res Publica. He is author of Amicable Agreement versus Majority Rule, European Democracies, and Conscience in Politics and coauthor of Decision-Making in Smaller Democracies and A Theory of Political Decision Modes. Professor Steiner has studied at the universities of Bern and Paris. He joined the department in 1971.
