Ambassador Robert M. Beecroft to Speak at UNC in January

The Honors Program Student Executive Board is bringing Ambassador Robert M. Beecroft to speak at UNC on Thursday, January 9th, at 1:00 p.m. in room 39 of the Johnston Center.

Ambassador Robert M. Beecroft is the Head of the Organization for Security and Cooperation Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina. After attaining a B.A. and an M.A from the University of Pennsylvania, he pursued his studies at the Sorbonne, at the Goethe-Institut, and at the University of Strasbourg. In 1971, he joined the Department of State and has since served at many U.S. embassies, including those in Paris, Bonn, and Cairo. Ambassador Beecroft also acted as the U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo Chief of Mission and Special Envoy for the Bosnian Federation from 1996 to 1997. He, then, from 1997 to 1998, was an active member of the Fourteenth Senior Seminar at the U.S. National Foreign Affairs Training Center. In the two years following this membership, Beecroft returned to the State Department Bureau of Political-Military Affairs as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State. He then acted as the Bureau of European Affairs Senior Coordinator for Bosnian Implementation. He received his rank of Ambassador in November 2001 from President George W. Bush.
