About RHA

The best way to describe the Residence Hall Association is through our mission statement:

We commit to enriching and maintaining a comfortable and supportive living and learning community by representing residents' concerns, offering diverse programming, and providing desirable residence hall enhancements.

[Our Central Purpose]

The main goal of the Residence Hall Association is to represent residents' concerns on campus, while also providing energetic programming and enhancements to residence life.  Our financial backing comes from the residents that we represent.  Our funds are distributed to our central government as well as to each community on campus. The Residence Hall Association has three primary goals:

[Our Three Primary Goals]
  1. To represent residents' concerns on those issues that affect them.
  2. To build strong communities within residence halls through innovative social, educational, and service programs.
  3. To provide enhancement items in residence halls in order to foster a more comfortable atmosphere.
[Our Organizational Structure]

RHA exists on three different levels at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

  • To begin, we have community officers and general representatives who provide services and programs for their communities.
  • Next, those officers work with a Community Governor, who oversees the buildings that comprise a community.  The Community Government also has several officers that serve an entire community.
  • Finally, there is a campus-level RHA, composed of the President, an Executive Board, and the RHA Board of Governors.  This campus-wide RHA serves as a voice for residents on housing issues and other significant campus initiatives, as well as provides campus-wide programs for all residents.
[Representation]

RHA represents residents' concerns to the University.  Issues that the Residence Hall Association has dealt with in the past include visitation and smoking policies, facilities improvement, and security initiatives. We send representatives to meet regularly and discuss student concerns with various University departments and organizations, and maintain a close working relationship with the Department of Housing and Residential Education.

[Programming]

RHA also works hard to provide a diverse choice of programming to residents.  We provide residents with valuable social programs and excellent service opportunities.  Some examples from previous years include: Screen on the Green, Blood Drives, Forums, Olde Dirty Bash, and Beach Blast. These events are specifically designed to cater to all students across campus.

[Enhancements]
RHA also offers enhancement items to improve the quality of campus life.  Available at community offices, students can check out vacuum cleaners, VCRs & DVD players, movies, video game systems, and other items for use in their community.  We also provide big screen TVs and recreational items such as basketballs, volleyball nets, pool tables, and ping-pong tables.

RHA is the perfect opportunity to gain valuable leadership experience while serving thousands of residents.
We are always seeking enthusiastic and energetic leaders who are willing to commit to the three-fold mission of RHA.
